This Christmas I wanted to do something different. Having limited space and an abundance rustic decorations (thanks to Homely Creatures market stalls) I thought I would challenge myself not to buy anything new and create a Christmas 'tree' with things from around my home. On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me...
five little candles,
four glass milk bottles,
three hessian buntings,
two strings of fairy lights,
one wooden ladder,
and Kewpie dolly angel on top!
This rustic approach using browns, reds and white, although not very traditional, goes nicely with my screen printed brown wrapping paper. I'm quite pleased with the result and relieved I don't have to go out and find a tree this year.
I hope that my London friends see this and are convinced that I am not utterly depressed to be missing out on a perfect London Christmas for the first time in four years. Seeing all of their gorgeous wintery photos on Facebook of Covent Garden and Carnaby Street, mulled wine and cosy Christmas treats is making me terribly homesick for London. I'm having to replace mince pies with prawns and swap my winter coat for my bikini. I know this is not usually something I have the right to complain about but I speculate that most of those in-the-know will agree, nothing beats a London Christmas, not even a sunny summer's day in Australia.
I hope that all of you (you know who you are) have a very Merry Christmas, manage to stay warm and get everything you wish for from Santa. I miss you!!!
